This was the input that gave life to "no backwars" visionary
visual concept.
Those drawings made by Cristina
Paolucci are as childsh as full of rage. A
see-through to a world of never-straight lines, decise and
barking marks, thousand of little hidden eyes observing
their observer. Sometimes furiously, sometimes sarcastics.
Never banally. Imaginary, unshaped creatures screaming
against
the ink that create them.
Life moments frozen in paper, always telling stories that
goes forward the single moment.
Intense expression of feelings still pristine to the music.
And for certain aspects, hard to describe and catalogue for
being "far" to the common extreme music clichès and fees.
How to describe them? Soul's drawings.
Mysia songs have
always been soul's voice, not simply a "one-genre" musical
expression..
Easy to understand why Mysia musical path had to cross
with her hand.
SOUNDS.
Later music started to become a part of Cristina's visionary
world due to Omar's request to put images to a own song.
Meanwhile Mysia were searching a visual expression for their
music and found in
her a precious partner.
The chance to taste the enormous potential of this joint
efforts was in earlier 2008. Omar gave Cristina
''unhinge my hate'' song's lyrics, and
the result was stunning. Scratched lines and a bare red
background deeply captured the essence of the lyrics,
moreover creating a new imaginary space where words could
flow in new and undiscovered dark territories.
This first experience only with lyrics was followed by ''imaginate''
on the
rough mix (this time music and words..) of
''the
dark inside'', maybe the most rum track of the new
promo still to come, later named 'No Backwards'.
In the same period Cristina draw other Moleskine for other
non-Mysia songs and artists, that only enforced Mysias's
belief...
There was no need of further experiments or attempts for
Mysia.
EMOTIONS.
Half 2008, the new work is almost completed. The concept and
the songs' mastering is the hiatus that inspired the
undefined, chaotic world of the cover.
Not a scene or a defined subjet, but a muddle of
emotions, feelings, screams and shapeless beings hiding
themselves through a forest of emotions. Each song lives
free and flushes through the creeks of lines clashing on
paper, runs like a fool through different emotions and
moods. The pen has the same purpose than the band's
musicians: let flow emotions through notes.
The final drawing used on the layout and cd needed only some
little edits from the draft one.
It was already almost perfect.
FACES.
As Mysia expected, cd artwork and cover have been
immediately and universally appreciated as well as by fans,
press, zines. Not only by heavy music listeners, probably
because artwork doesn't use a "typical" metal language and
approach. Besides Cristina never listened to heavy music,
and her "virginity" in that sense made her approach further
original and borderline.
The next step was to recreate that slimy mood and
describe the connection between music and emotions on the
band's image. For the web, for promotional pourposes, and
becaming more and more "symbols" of that close wedding
between music, art and emotions. The band decided to talk
about it getting woven by the same creeks and lines in the
cover: as music flushes and flows through veins and bones,
so the skin became the manifesto for this close interaction
between arts.
Cristina easily sewed her world and feelings on band's skins
embodiyng perfectly Mysia's artistic and lifestyle message.
